Intuitive Eating

Intuitive Eating is a framework and practice of eating that supports you to heal from chronic dieting, connect with your body’s cues of hunger, fullness, add satisfaction to eating experiences, cultivate body respect and ditch the diet mentality. Intuitive Eating is aligned with Health At Every Size® and involves learning practices to respect your here-and-now body.

This approach may help those who are fed up of dieting as it stops the cycle of restrictive eating by reconnecting with the body and focusing on food satisfaction and joy. Intuitive Eating has robust research which shows a positive impact on health, quality of life, and decreased disordered eating.

What you need to know before choosing a Dietitian:

Many Dietitians incorporate Intuitive Eating as part of their dietetic practice. Some Dietitians have pursued advanced training in this area to be certified as Intuitive Eating Counsellors. Take a look at the Dietitians in this section, review their profiles and websites, and pick a Dietitian you think will be a good match for your values and beliefs and who resonates with you.

What to expect when working with a Dietitian:

With the encouragement and guidance of a Dietitian, you can stop the yo-yo dieting cycle.  To work most efficiently with your Dietitian, consider reading the Intuitive Eating Book, or flip through a few chapters before a session. You can find a peaceful relationship with all foods by learning to listen to your body and eating what feels right for you.
